Project Management: Getting Started

Resources supporting PMI and IPMA certifications and project management trends

About Project Management

Although project management has been around for a very long time, it was not until the 20th century that it evolved into a formal discipline.  Today there are a number of approaches to managing projects and also certification granting organizations.

This Guide provides information about project management trends as well as a description of the approaches of two major global project certification bodies:  Project Management Institute (PMI) and the International Project Management Association (IPMA).  The Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards (GAPPS) compares certification differences.

PMI is the world’s largest project management organization and IPMA is the selected partner of the Tauber Institute of Global Operations at the University of Michigan.
