The Egyptian pyramids and the Great Wall of China are early examples of completed projects. Although project management has been around forever, it evolved into a formal discipline in the 20th century. Today there are many guides to managing projects and certification granting organizations.
Multiple approaches to project management are defined by the certifications. This Guide will provide literature explaining the approaches of two major global project certification bodies: Project Management Institute (PMI) and the International Project Management Association (IPMA). The Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards (GAPPS) explains some of the certification differences.
PMI is the world’s largest project management organization and IPMA is the selected partner of the Tauber Institute of Global Operations at the University of Michigan.
